SAWADSKE- In loving remembrance of Annie Ellen Davis, wife of John H. Sawadske, who departed this life April 30, 1895, aged 32 years 9 months and 25 days.
My life is lonesome, home is sad,
My heart is filled with pain,
I feel like one who ne’er will know
A happy day in life again.
How sad to-night my troubled heart,
How dim mine eyes with tears,
For Death has robbed me of the one
I thought was mine for years.
The sunbeams of my happy life
Will never on me shine,
Until in Heaven I shall meet
That true wife of mine.
The very light and love of home,
That came I thought to stay,
To make me happy while I lived,
Too soon was called away.
The eyes that smile so sweet on me,
The form I thought Devine–
All, all is gone for Heaven claimed
That true wife of mine.
And at last one Saturday morning,
Just about the break of day,
He commanded the angels,
Go and bear her soul away.
Softly came the host of angels,
And they hovered round the bed;
Then came Death and touched her gently,
And they whispered, she is dead.
No, not dead, but only sleeping,
Till the Resurrection morn,
When the Lord shall call His elect
To their everlasting home.
Then our hearts were filled with anguish
And our souls were bowed with grief,
But the thought of her in Heaven
Brought unto our souls relief.
With tearful eyes there stood we gazing
On her lifeless form of clay,
Til at last there came a whisper
and the angels bore her soul away.
Then to her resting place we bore her
With tender tribute of regret;
Within our hearts there came a whisper,
Sleep on beloved, take thy rest.
Had he asked us, well we know,
We would say, O, spare the blow
And with streaming tears would say,
Lord we love her; let her stay.
In love she lived, in peace she died.
Her life was asked, but God denied.
Eternal rest give unto her,
O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon her.
Sawadske, who departed this life April 30, 1895, aged 32 years 9 months and 25 days.
