Psalm 25

Psalm 25 A Plea for Eternal Deliverance and Forgiveness A Psalm of David. 1 To You, O Lord, I lift up my soul. 2 O my God, I trust in You; let me not be ashamed; let not my enemies triumph over me. 3 Indeed, let no one who waits on You be ashamed; let those be ashamed who deal treacherously without cause. David lifts up His eternal safety to Yahweh of hosts, the Lord Jesus Christ. “For the Scripture says, ‘Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.’(Isa 2816) For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.’”(Joel 2:32a) —Romans 10:11-13 “One of the delightful things about studying the Bible is that just when we think we have mastered one of its great doctrines another complementary doctrine comes along to challenge our still limited understanding and stretch our vision.” [BSF International] Paul in the epistles to the Romans went from precept to precept— from “He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens” (Rom 9:18) to the identity of those on whom He will have mercy—“whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”(Joel 2:32a; Rom 10:13 ) “Then you shall know that I am in the midst of Israel: I am Yahweh your God and there is no other. My people shall never be put to shame. And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of Yahweh. And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of Yahweh shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, as Yahweh has said, among the remnant whom Yahweh calls.” (Joel 2:27-32) It is exciting days for God’s people. 4 Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. 5 Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day. 6 Remember, O Lord, Your tender mercies and Your lovingkindnesses, for they are from of old. 7 Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; according to Your mercy remember me, for Your goodness’ sake, O Lord. 8 Good and upright is Yahweh; therefore He teaches sinners in the way. 9 The humble He guides in justice, and the humble He teaches His way. 10 All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth, to such as keep His covenant and His testimonies. 11 For Your name’s sake, O Lord, pardon my iniquity, for it is great. 12 Who is the man that fears Yahweh? Him shall He teach in the way He chooses. 13 He himself shall dwell in prosperity, and his descendants shall inherit the earth. 14 The secret of Yahweh is with those who fear Him, and He will show them His covenant. 15 My eyes are ever toward Yahweh, for He shall pluck my feet out of the net. “Who is the man that fears Yahweh? Him shall He teach in the way He chooses. He himself shall dwell in prosperity, and his [spiritual] descendants [or children], shall inherit the [new] earth,” even eternal life, therein. The secret of Yahweh is with those who fear Him. The threatening of the Father is eternal death. You shall surely die. (Genesis 2:17) But He reveals Jesus to those who fear Him- to those who believe that threat. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23) “He told Noah of the deluge, and Abraham of the burning of Sodom… ‘And He will show them His covenant,‘ i.e. the secret communications of His peace, of joy and comfort, called the Hidden Manna, which the natural man cannot receive.” (Joseph Sutcliffe)— “He will make them clearly to understand it, both its duties or conditions, and its blessings or privileges; neither of which ungodly men rightly understand.” (Matthew Poole) He will make them to behold the blood of the everlasting covenant, opening the ancient doors of the Heavenly Tabernacle. Jehovah “reveals Himself as their covenant God and Father; shows them that His Son is their Surety, Mediator, Redeemer, and Saviour.” (John Gill) Thus He leads them in the way of the believer's baptism Jesus' name. “It is neither learning nor labour that can give insight into God’s secrets, those Arcana imperii, Matthew 13:12, the mysteries of the kingdom, ‘the mind of Christ,’ 1 Corinthians 2:16; these things come by revelation rather than discourse of reason, and must therefore be obtained by prayer. Those that diligently seek Him shall be of His cabinet council, shall know His secrets, and be admitted into a gracious familiarity and friendship: John 15:15, ‘Hence forth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his Lord doth: but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known to you.’” (John Trapp) 15 My eyes are ever toward Yahweh, for He shall pluck my feet out of the net. 16 Turn Yourself to me, and have mercy on me, for I am desolate and afflicted. 17 The troubles of my heart have enlarged; bring me out of my distresses! 18 Look on my affliction and my pain, and forgive all my sins. 19 Consider my enemies, for they are many; and they hate me with cruel hatred. 20 Keep my soul, and deliver me; let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in You. 21 Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for You. 22 Redeem Israel, O God, out of all their troubles!
